[Textiles]
Commonly known as Blackland hemp, this hemp is native to China's Heilongjiang Province and is characterized by its strong grayish color. While hemp tends to create a more natural, cozy look, Blackland is ideal for expressing a modern, Euro-vintage feel, often resulting in a deadstock fabric-like finish, making it a material often featured in AUBERGE. For this project, the yarn was extracted using the traditional hemp spinning method and rope-dyed in a vintage green indigo, the riskiest color for Sakamoto Denim in Japan. Although this is a century-old manufacturing method, every step of the process—spinning, dyeing, and weaving—was deemed too risky, making it a deadstock fabric that can no longer be produced.

【design】
Linen and indigo fabrics were not widely available in the US and were mainly sourced in France and Europe until the 19th century, so we were inspired by the stand-collar set-ups of Fabram, a maverick in the UK workwear world. While this is a uniquely British workwear, the sleeves that flare out in front are also clearly reflected in the pattern.
